Stylin’

23 Aug

Last week, my friend Anna and I went to D’s Magazine’s Style Sheet Party! We had tons of fun and met lots of bloggers and “frequent” faces I’ve seen on T.V.

We went mainly because Anna works for D Mag, but also because we love to get dressed up, and who doesn’t love a few free cocktails!! Little did we know we would meet Courtney Kerr, from Most Eligible Dallas, Hilari Younger from this past season of HGTV Design Star, and Gregg Asher from fashionbaggage.com

Also we were on the front page of D Magazine Style Sheet Website! So cool!

“Great Lobbies”

25 Jul

Hospitality Design Magazine featured “Great Lobbies” in their magazine almost a year ago. Searching the internet, these images and their concepts caught my eye.

Hilton Anatole in Dallas, designed my San Rafael-based EDG, resembles a town center, active day and night.

Hilton Anatole Food and Beverage component has a grab & go counter which increases revenue while offering guests an immersive experience.

Hilton McLean – After a $40 million renovation by Atlanta firm, TVS. The Hilton McLean Tysons Corner now features an 18-hour bar with a sculptural light element that morphs the space from day to night

Holiday Inn lobbies have been transformed into Social Hubs complete with modular furniture.

This Holiday Inn breakfast area transitions into a bar to keep guests on site and increase social interaction.

Le Meridien in Barcelona has a new lobby concept, called Latitude Bar, serving coffee and food by day and wine at night.

Last by not least, my favorite out of all of these.

The TRYP by Wyndham, located in the heart of Times Square in New York City, has a new select-service brand geared towards younger audiences, is nicknamed Plaza Central. The design, by BBG-BBGM, is known for postcard lights and chesterfield sofas.

Hotels are now all about interaction, the TRYP encourages this by featuring a communal table, bar, library, and gastrobar.

Summer Internship

17 May

I am so blessed to have been offered a summer internship at Looney and Associates in Dallas, Texas. I am in love with the work they do and couldn’t be happier that I get to work on their projects and learn from them this summer!

Looney and Associates is an Architecture and Interior Design firm that specializes in Hotels and Resorts! Offices are located in Dallas and Chicago!

Since I was little, I have been interested in hotel design, it may even be what sparked my interest in Interior Design! With my family owning 3 hotels in my hometown, I got to experience the process of them being built.  My dad always took me to the construction sites and I’m sure I complained about it, but I’m glad he made me go. Even though I was young, I can still remember small details in the construction and interiors.  My dad always had boards with carpet samples on them in his office, trying to pick out the best color choice for the hotels. That is one thing I remember.  After seeing these hotels being built and even working in one in high school, I feel like I have a high understanding of hotel design.  There is something about knowing what all went into the spacial layout and design and getting to see the stuff the public doesn’t see.

Here is one of my favorite projects by Looney and Associates, The Sheraton Fisherman’s Wharf Hotel in San Francisco, California

Also, I had the opportunity to stay in the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, California in 2008. The Hotel del Coronado is a very old hotel but some villas are newly renovated, this is the part that Looney and Associates has designed! I had just started Interior Design back then and as I am always mesmerized with hotel rooms and take pictures of them all, I remember walking in the very, spacious hotel room and saying, “Wow! this is amazing!!” I loved everything about it! Come to find out, when I was applying for internships I was drawn to this firm because I had stayed in a hotel they had designed!!

My goal for the future is to go stay in as many hotels that Looney and Associates has designed and hopefully one day I’ll get to stay in a Hotel that I helped design!! Can’t wait!

Check out the website and view the rest of their projects!

NYLO Hotels. Luxury Loft Boutique Lodging.

26 Apr

This past weekend my mom and I took a little trip down to Dallas to run some errands and sign lots of paper work!! :))) My family owns hotels so I always stay in the standard hotels…hampton inn, holiday inn express, quality inn, and so on. I stay there because I get discounts and who doesn’t love discounts.  Well, I’ve always had a love for boutique hotels, which are amazing! I’ve only seen most on the internet and been in a couple! One being the Hotel ZaZa in Uptown Dallas, which I didn’t take many pictures off and this hotel, The NYLO.  If you have never stayed in a NYLO you need to!!! It was amazing! I knew it was going to be cool because some people I know had stayed there before but seeing it for my own eyes was so cool!! I’m not sure if it was because I’m interested in Interior Design and I’ve learned so much the last few years, but I really pay attention to it now! If I would have been allowed to design a boutique hotel for my senior project, I would have done it 100% better than my spa project!

The NYLO Hotels are located in Plano, Texas (that is this one that Im blogging about!), Dallas,/Las Colinas, Providence, Rhode Island, and opening up this summer there will be one in Dallas Southside (which they said is downtown)!!

Check out the website http://www.nylohotels.com/

I love the branding for the NYLO everything is branded the same way down to the soap, shampoo, etc. I am somewhat into graphic design so this caught my eye!

The arrival space

love the exposed ceilings

small nooks off to the side with simple curtains

Hallway down to the hotel room! Very plain but I love it! Im a simple kind of person!

Fell in love with this artwork down the hallway on the main floor! this was located on the wall across from the meeting rooms leading down to the bar area.

Signage….I love how big and simple it is!

Another seating area with a rug that matches, this was used way more than I expected in the amount of time I was in the hotel!

In the bar area, breakfast/bunch area in the mornings

It’s all about the detailing! look how cool the tables are!

Now to the bedrooms! I am in love!! I loved the light fixtures

The brick accent wall and the side concrete walls are covered with curtains to soften the space

The bed, yes I was on the floor checking out the construction of the bed. The floor is concrete and around the bed and seating area are rugs.  I thought that because concrete was used it would be cold but it wasn’t at all, and it was even chilly outside! The concrete flooring had a normal warm temperature and my mom said she noticed how it was warmer around the bed!

Sitting area in the bedroom

Door to the bathroom, I love the industrial, modern fee

The top of the shower is exposed and open into the rest of the room (the shower is that rounded piece of glass)

The lighting in the bathroom is perfect for putting on makeup!

I love how the mirror extends into the shower!

Our stay at the hotel was one to remember and I hope I get to stay in one again!! I hope these hotels continue to grow and expand all over the u.s. and the world! I loved the atmosphere and the bed was even comfortable!! I didn’t feel like I was in a normal hotel and I loved that!

If you have a chance to stay at a NYLO, DO IT!! You won’t regret it!

The designer of the space is Stephane Dupoux with Dupoux Design

Mist Medical and Wellness Spa Part 2

16 Apr

It’s done!! My senior project is done!!! yay!!! As this post is being publicized, if the time slots went like planned today I am presenting my project at this moment! These are my final presentation boards minus the large floor plans and section that I showed in the last post! The bottom 4-5 boards are 16″x20″ material boards with the actual materials that are shown in the spaces. Pictures just don’t even do these boards justice because they are full of depth and weight! They are much cooler in person! Take a look at the last picture as I tried to show some depth in it! Hope you enjoy! :)

I just had a bit of relief come off my shoulders today, not all of it, but most!!! The digital part of the project is FINITO, now onto material boards!! Here is a preview of what I have completed and have been working on all semester!! Tons and tons of hard work went into this project and I am proud of what I have completed! I now feel like I could do almost anything in Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, and InDesign! ha!

Here is the building that holds “Mist Medical and Wellness Spa.” It is located on the 2nd-4th floors on the lower curved portion.
