Eighty-Six Bar & Restaurant

23 Apr

Last spring break I took a break from Italy and traveled to Paris and London with my dad.  In London, I met up with one of my best friends, Allie Reese who lived there at the time. She suggested that we go a restaurant called, Eighty-Six.  Of course we said, Sure!, if someone that lives in town recommends a restaurant it must be good right? Well not only was the food delicious,  I was immediately awed by the interior design of this restaurant.  This 3-story restaurant starts with the ground floor that serves as the cocktail bar,

“the first floor dining room is a sensuous space bathed in alluring gold leaf. Charlotte Cory portraits from yesteryear have been brought to the future with the superimposition of various animal heads providing diners with a glamorous atmosphere. The restaurant absorbs the buzz from the ground floor bar through the open gallery in the middle of the room.”

And the second floor is the perfect party space for private dining.

“Designed with versatility and enjoyment in mind, the elaborate second floor space is entirely self-contained, with a private bar, waiter, loos, iPod dock and two atmospheric fireplaces. It’s ideal for private dining, cocktail parties, intimate gatherings and corporate events.”

The brief was to create a venue that appealed to its local Fulham and Chelsea residents for different occasions.  The interior should incorporate an informal stylish bar to the ground floor level and restaurant to the perimeter mezzanine allowing visual interaction between the 2 spaces. The completed look and feel of the space should be one of quality and discreet glamour.

More space was created for the front of house section by removing the existing large island bar and relocating it to the left hand side of the room. The ground floor has long charcoal velvet chesterfields with a backdrop of black lacquered random sized panels and a beautifully finished mirror polished steel bar as a centrepiece. Floors are a mixture of dark woods, mosaics, and a central featured inset rug.

The mezzanine level has a slightly more informal feel with a backdrop of glamorous gold panels cladding the walls. A playful use of angled gilt mirrors gives the impression of a high ceiling and creates different perspectives around the room.

The mirrors on the ceiling were to die for!!!
I love the simple detailing on the wall!
yes! ghost chairs with cushions!
The vanity lighting along the top of the wall, so cool!
I love everything about the design of this restaurant and hope that one day I get to design something like this!! I am so glad Allie took my dad and I here!

Spas across the world

As I am looking for Internships and researching firms I recently fell in love with Hirsch Bedner Associates and the work they do. Working in a hospitality interior design firm is my dream.  I found a project they designed very inspirational to me, ESPA in Istanbul, Turkey.  The spa has a luxurious feel with its embossed bronze floor, chocolate brown marble, cast bronze sinks, and walls of crystals and warm, rich lighting effects.

I love the geometric wall structure in the gym area, it reminds me of water in its solid state as a molecule.
